Art Fairs 2027: Dates, Focus and How Artists Take Part

The major art fairs of 2027 run from Frieze Los Angeles in February to Art Basel in June, with Photo London, The Photography Show and Art Basel Hong Kong in between. Autumn dates, including Frieze London and Paris Photo, were not yet published on the fairs' official sites when we checked on 23 October 2026.

Most major fairs accept applications from galleries, not from individual artists. Artists can take part through a gallery, through fairs that accept direct applications such as The Other Art Fair, or through prizes and open calls. Whatever the route, collectors check an artist's website before and after the fair.

Autumn fairs: dates not yet announced

The big autumn fairs had not published 2027 dates when we checked, so use the 2026 editions as a guide.

  • Art Basel Paris: 23–25 October 2026 at the Grand Palais.
  • Frieze London and Frieze Masters: 14–18 October 2026 in Regent's Park.
  • Paris Photo: 12–15 November 2026 at the Grand Palais.
  • Art Basel Miami Beach: 4–6 December 2026 in Miami Beach.
  • The Armory Show: 24–27 September 2026 in New York.
  • Frieze Seoul: 2–5 September 2026; the 2027 edition moves to Dongdaemun Design Plaza.

Fairs usually announce dates for the following year at or after the current edition. Bookmark each fair's official page rather than relying on lists, including this one.

Which fairs suit which artist

Pick fairs by medium and career stage, not by size.

  • Photographers: Photo London, The Photography Show (AIPAD), Unseen and the Rencontres d'Arles festival. Paris Photo is the main autumn event.
  • Digital and new-media artists: Art Dubai Digital and the Zero 10 sector at Art Basel Hong Kong show digital work curated into a fair setting.
  • Emerging artists: Liste, NADA, Affordable Art Fair and The Other Art Fair are built around newer names and lower prices.
  • Established and collectable work: Art Basel, Frieze, ARCO, Art Dubai and TEFAF.

Can an artist apply to an art fair?

At the largest fairs, galleries apply; artists take part through them.

Paris Photo accepts applications from galleries and publishers only. Art Basel and Frieze select galleries through committees of gallerists. ARCO and Art Dubai also take gallery applications. An individual artist therefore reaches these fairs through a gallery that represents them.

Some fairs do work with artists directly:

  • The Other Art Fair: artists apply directly. The Los Angeles edition (25–28 February 2027) has free applications due 8 November, and its New Futures programme for emerging artists closes 15 November 2026.
  • Affordable Art Fair: artists can register interest, and each fair decides whether to accept solo presentations. Artists must be living and over 18, with original or limited-edition work within the fair's price ceiling.
  • Photo London and Unseen: run programmes for emerging photographers, mostly through galleries, nominations or their own forms. Read each fair's page for the current route.

Deadlines pass quickly, so check each fair's official page for the current call.

Other routes into the fair world

A fair is one outcome; most artists get there through other work first.

  1. Gallery representation. A gallery that exhibits at fairs shows your work to its collectors and curators.
  2. Open calls and prizes. Shortlists and awards build the record that galleries and fair committees notice. See the current photography open calls and digital artist open calls.
  3. Exhibitions and artist-run spaces. Group shows and open studios show your work to local collectors and curators.

Prepare before the fair: what collectors check

Collectors search for an artist's website before they walk to the booth, and again afterwards.

At a fair, a collector sees your work for a few seconds. The follow-up happens online: they look up the title, check the artist's practice and decide whether to contact you. A website that answers those questions keeps the conversation going.

  • A page for each work: title, year, medium, size, edition and price or "enquire".
  • Series and statement: a short text that explains how the works belong together.
  • Full-quality images that collectors can inspect.
  • A clear way to contact or buy.

Printed material can link to the same page. A QR code on a label or card takes a visitor from the wall to the artwork's page; this is how a physical show extends online, as described on Move to Digital. For how collectors find and decide, read how art moves from discovery to direct sale.

Digital Original gives each work its own page on a professional website: images in full quality with Deep Zoom, your own domain, and selling built in. Check your site against the artist website checklist and set clear prices with our guide on how to price artwork.

After the fair

Follow up within days, while the work is still fresh for the collector.

Write to every collector who left contact details, with a link to the work they looked at. Update your website with any sales or shows. Note which works drew attention and which did not, and use that when you plan the next series or choose the next fair.

Art Fairs 2027

  • Art Basel in Basel (17–20 June), Art Basel Hong Kong (25–27 March), Frieze New York (12–16 May) and Frieze Los Angeles (25–28 February). Autumn fairs including Frieze London and Paris Photo had not announced 2027 dates when we checked.

  • Not directly. These fairs select galleries, and artists take part through the gallery that represents them.

  • The Other Art Fair accepts applications directly from artists, and the Affordable Art Fair takes expressions of interest from artists within its rules. Check each fair's page for the current call.

  • Photo London, The Photography Show (AIPAD) in New York, Unseen (Rotterdam edition in March) and Paris Photo in November. The Rencontres d'Arles is a major photography festival.

  • Yes. Collectors, curators and galleries look up artists online before and after the fair, so a website with a page for each work and clear contact details is part of your preparation.
